Aaron Rodgers Joins Steelers After Months of Rumors

Aaron Rodgers finally put pen to paper on his deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers, marking an official end to months of rumors surrounding his future. However, it was not the Steelers’ first choice for quarterback. The team had expressed interest in trading for Los Angeles Rams signal-caller Matthew Stafford and re-signing Justin Fields before settling for Rodgers.

Fields spent the entire 2024 season with the Steelers, starting 10 games and posting a 4-2 record while Russell Wilson was sidelined due to injury. Despite his impressive performance, he was benched upon Wilson’s return. The New York Jets ultimately signed Fields to a two-year, $40 million deal after being unable to re-sign him.

The Steelers’ decision to sign Rodgers has raised hopes that they can reach the playoffs for the third consecutive year. With the addition of wide receiver DK Metcalf and significant personnel changes on both sides of the ball, Pittsburgh is retooling their offense in an effort to improve. However, head coach Mike Tomlin and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith have reportedly been in contact with Rodgers about reconfiguring the offense to his liking.

Despite being the team’s third choice, it appears the Steelers are committed to making the marriage work. With Rodgers on board, Pittsburgh is poised for a competitive season ahead.
