Former NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers may consider retirement from the league if he doesn’t secure a deal with his preferred team, the Minnesota Vikings. According to reports, Rodgers is considering offers from both the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers but would prefer to sign with the Vikings.
The Vikings have an opening for a veteran quarterback after last year’s starter, Sam Darnold, signed with the Seattle Seahawks. However, the team also has former Michigan national champion J.J. McCarthy, who was drafted by the team in 2024. Rodgers is not considered a long-term solution for any team due to his age.
NFL agent Leigh Steinberg believes Minnesota would be a “positive fit” for Rodgers, especially with McCarthy’s presence as a potential protégé. Steinberg stated that teams like the Giants are not ideal fits, as they need a long-term solution and wouldn’t benefit from Rodgers’ mentoring.
Favre’s Advice: If Rodgers signs with the Vikings, he will follow a similar career path to his predecessor Brett Favre, who played for the Packers before joining the Jets. Favre has advised Rodgers to sign with the Vikings, citing their strong team, good fan base, and recent playoff success.
