Aaron Rodgers Meets with Steelers, Leaves Without Signing

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback coach Mike Tomlin has long admired Aaron Rodgers, who led the Green Bay Packers to a Super Bowl victory over the Steelers in 2011. However, their interactions have been limited due to Tomlin’s infamous timeout call against Rodgers during a game last season.

Rodgers met with the Steelers on Friday, gathering information about the team, but left without signing a contract. The meeting was not made public and was kept under wraps by an anonymous source.

The Steelers are in need of a quarterback after Justin Fields signed with the Jets earlier this week. With Russell Wilson also set to become a free agent, the Steelers have room on their roster for another quarterback.

Rodgers’ decision to meet with the Steelers has sparked speculation that he might want to play football again, possibly in Pittsburgh. The 41-year-old quarterback is reportedly not in a rush to make a decision and spent time recently trying to figure out if he wanted to return for another season.

Heyward expressed frustration on his podcast earlier this week, saying “If you want me to recruit, that’s the recruiting pitch.”

Rodgers has faced turbulent seasons with the Jets, including a torn left Achilles tendon in 2023. However, he returned last fall at 40 and had a decent season. If Rodgers were to join the Steelers, it could be an opportunity for him to end his career on a more positive note.

The Steelers have a strong roster, but quarterback is their most pressing need. With a Hall of Fame resume but plenty of baggage, the Steelers might take another flyer on Rodgers.
