Aaron Rodgers Opens Door for Potential Return with Jets

Aaron Rodgers remains undecided on his future, but the Green Bay Packers’ quarterback is open to helping develop a highly drafted quarterback if he were still playing. The 41-year-old said he would “mentor the hell out of” a rookie QB and try to keep them off the field.

Rodgers has been playing at a high level in recent games, passing for 628 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions over his last two contests. Despite this, there’s uncertainty surrounding his future due to his age and current contract situation.

The New York Jets are currently retooling their organization with a new regime, which could lead to changes at the quarterback position. Rodgers hinted that he’d be open to returning to the Jets if they drafted a top prospect and offered him a chance to mentor them.

Rodgers’ 2025 cap charge is $23.5 million, but he has a $35 million option bonus due in 2025. He’s not opposed to taking a pay cut for a second time, suggesting he’s willing to consider his options if the Jets offer him a deal. However, there are risks involved – if he returns next season under his existing contract, the dead cap charge balloons to $63 million.

While the sense around the organization is that Rodgers won’t be back, his recent form has raised questions about his future with the Packers. Wide receiver Allen Lazard believes Rodgers can still get back to MVP level, but a return to the Jets would require a significant change in circumstances.
