Aaron Rodgers to Decide on 2025 Season After Sunday’s Game

Aaron Rodgers will make his 241st career start for the New York Jets on Sunday in a season finale against the Miami Dolphins at MetLife Stadium. The quarterback acknowledged that he is considering retirement and has not ruled out returning to the team next year, but emphasized that it ultimately depends on whether the new regime wants him back.

Rodgers expressed gratitude for his 20-year NFL career, thanking coaches and teammates along the way. However, after a disappointing season, where he struggled with injuries and underperformed, Rodgers is in reflective mood. He has “a lot of gratitude” but also acknowledged that there will be change at the Jets, and if he’s not part of it, he wants to ensure everyone knows his appreciation for his time.

The 41-year-old quarterback needs only 115 yards to pass Matt Ryan on the career list and is close to becoming the fifth player in NFL history with 500 touchdown passes. Rodgers hopes to rest during the offseason after a long season of rehabbing his surgically repaired Achilles, which he believes will help him be better in 2025.

Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich praised Rodgers, saying that if it’s his last game, let’s “take him out on the right note.” Meanwhile, wide receiver Garrett Wilson expressed gratitude for playing with Rodgers, calling their relationship a “blessing.” Despite speculation about their dynamic, Wilson stated he wants to finish the season on a positive note.

With the Jets’ current record of 4-12 and changes in coaching and management, a new quarterback may be needed. Rodgers is under contract for 2025 but will decide whether to return after this game.
