Aaron Rodgers’ departure from the New York Jets is imminent as the team prepares for a new era under coach Aaron Glenn and GM Darren Mougey. The veteran quarterback’s two-year stint with the Jets was marked by inconsistency, despite his leadership and ability to make plays.
Rodgers started only 18 games in two seasons, missing most of the 2023 season due to a torn Achilles. His time with the Jets was marred by injuries and poor team performance, resulting in a 5-12 record in 2024. However, Jets captain C.J. Mosley disputes this assessment.
“No instant reaction until everything is set,” Mosley said of Rodgers’ departure. “We tried to do something special, despite injuries taking away time. He showed great things, like getting his 500th touchdown. He’s a leader who gave it his all, even after suffering an Achilles injury at 40.”
The Jets face uncertainty over whether they will cut or trade Rodgers, with the deadline spurring their action. A pre-June 1 move would incur a $49 million hit in dead cap, while a post-June 1 move would save $9.5 million. Mosley believes Rodgers still has up to two seasons left in him.
“I think he can definitely still play ball,” Mosley said. “He was mobile towards the end of the year and showed signs of life.” The Jets’ future with Rodgers remains uncertain, but Mosley’s comments suggest that the veteran quarterback may still have something left in the tank.
