Acclaimed filmmaker Aaron Sorkin is moving forward with his highly anticipated sequel to the 2010 original film The Social Network. Sources close to the production confirm that Jeremy Strong, known for his roles in Succession and The Trial of the Chicago 7, has been brought on board to join a talented ensemble cast.
Sorkin, who won an Academy Award for his work on the first film, will also direct and write the script for the sequel. The story is inspired by a series of articles from Jeff Horwitz, known as The Facebook Files, which shed light on the negative effects social media had on teens and kids.
Strong’s addition to the cast is seen as a significant coup, with sources speculating that he could be playing either a WSJ editor or Mark Zuckerberg. Jesse Eisenberg, who previously portrayed Zuckerberg in the first film, has passed on reprising his role at this time.
The sequel, which is set to explore themes of whistleblowing and corporate accountability, has drawn comparisons to films like The Insider and Spotlight. Sorkin will be producing the movie alongside Todd Black, Peter Rice, and Stuart Besser.
Madison will play Frances Haugen, the data engineer-turned-whistleblower, while White will portray a former WSJ tech reporter who breaks the Facebook files. With Strong on board, the cast is shaping up to be one of the most talented in years for Sorkin’s project.
