Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has sent an official letter to French President Emmanuel Macron ahead of the international conference on the Palestinian issue and two-state solution. The letter outlines key steps to end the war in Gaza and establish a just peace in the Middle East.
Abbas emphasizes the Palestinian people’s commitment to the two-state solution and its peaceful implementation. He also commits to dismantling Hamas, which he will no longer have any role in governance. Additionally, Abbas offers to assume sole governance and security responsibilities in the Gaza Strip with Arab and international support.
The letter calls for reforms within the Palestinian Authority, including comprehensive reforms and presidential and parliamentary elections under international supervision. Abbas states that Hamas must hand over its weapons and military capabilities to the Palestinian Security Forces, which will oversee their removal from the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
The June conference aims to advance the implementation of the two-state solution. French officials claim that the primary goal is to disarm Hamas, secure hostage releases, reform the Palestinian Authority, and plan for a two-state solution. However, Israeli officials suspect that France’s statements are meant to placate concerns while advancing unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state behind the scenes.
