ACC Settlement Eases Exit Fees for Clemson, FSU

A settlement between the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and universities Clemson and Florida State has been approved. In exchange for dropping lawsuits against the league, Clemson and FSU have reduced their exit fees to $75 million by 2030. Under this new agreement, schools will retain media rights if they leave and pay the fee, effectively voiding the ACC’s grant of rights.

The reduction in exit fees is a notable change, but it’s the retention of media rights that has significant implications for the future. The ACC previously held a tight grip on media rights until 2036, but this agreement loosens that control. As both the SEC and Big Ten prepare to renegotiate their television deals around 2030, Clemson and FSU have positioned themselves well for potential expansion opportunities.
