A new study published in the journal Neurology suggests that people whose bodies are aging faster may be more likely to develop dementia than those with normal or slower aging. Researchers analyzed data from nearly 281,000 UK residents and found that those with advanced biological age were 30% more likely to develop dementia. This is because accelerated aging leads to changes in brain structure, such as shrinkage of grey matter, which can contribute to the development of dementia. The study’s findings support the hypothesis that advanced biological age may play a role in the development of dementia, and highlight the importance of lifestyle factors like diet and exercise in influencing one’s biological age.
