Acetaminophen Linked to Increased Risk-Taking Behavior

A recent study found that taking acetaminophen may lead people to engage in risk-taking behavior, despite reducing feelings of fear. The research, conducted by neuroscientist Baldwin Way and his team at Ohio State University, involved over 500 university students who were given a single dose of the medication or a placebo. The results showed that those on acetaminophen took greater risks during a balloon-pumping exercise, pumping and bursting their balloons more frequently than the control group. While the effects may be slight, the study suggests that acetaminophen could have significant implications for society, particularly given its widespread use as an over-the-counter medication.
