Acme Weather Offers Uncertainty-Focused Forecasts for iPhone Users

Acme Weather aims to address forecast uncertainty with its new iPhone app. Unlike other weather apps that provide a single best guess, Acme Weather acknowledges the possibility of errors and offers alternative forecasts. The team behind Dark Sky, now back together, has developed this feature after leaving Apple’s fold.

Acme Weather’s primary goal is to provide users with multiple possible outcomes, reflecting the inherent uncertainty in weather forecasting. This approach aims to make users more informed by presenting various scenarios for different time ranges and conditions. The app also features a community reporting section, allowing users to share current conditions near them.

Grossman explains that the spread of forecast lines indicates reliability, while alternative possibilities show what else might happen. For example, if there’s a significant spread, it’s an indication that something is up, and the user should check other sources or come back to the app frequently. Acme Weather also includes robust notifications, such as down-to-the-minute rain warnings, government severe weather alerts, and community reports.

The app is $25 per year, with a two-week free trial, and is currently available for iPhone with an Android version coming soon.
