Activists Set Sail for Gaza on Handala Flotilla Vessel

A ship called Handala, part of an international protest flotilla, has set sail from Italy and is approaching the coast of the Gaza Strip. The vessel is carrying activists who aim to break Israel’s blockade on the territory and raise awareness about the humanitarian crisis there.

The crew includes well-known activist Greta Thunberg, who participated in a similar flotilla last month that was stopped by the Israeli Navy. This voyage is expected to last around ten days and will make stops at ports across Europe and the UK.

Activists claim an unidentified boat is approaching them, but they are “preparing for a takeover” according to reports from Army Radio. The Israel Navy has been preparing to intercept the vessel, which is currently about 200 kilometers from Gaza.

The organizers of the flotilla describe it as a “collective act of conscience” aimed at delivering aid and raising awareness about the crisis in Gaza. The ship’s previous voyages took place in 2023 and 2024, visiting ports across Europe and the UK to build global solidarity.
