Actor and writer Jeff Baena, 47, was found dead in a Los Angeles home on Friday. His wife, actress Aubrey Plaza, has shared a statement describing his death as “unimaginable tragedy.” The cause of death was ruled a suicide by the Los Angeles County medical examiner.
Baena collaborated with Plaza on several films, including the 2014 zombie comedy Life After Beth and their 2022 film Spin Me Round. He also worked with notable directors such as Robert Zemeckis and David O. Russell. Plaza has spoken highly of Baena’s ability to work together effectively, saying he would have continued to collaborate with her even if they weren’t married.
Baena was a graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and had appeared in several films throughout his career. His death comes as Plaza prepares for an upcoming event, having been scheduled to present at the Golden Globes on Sunday.
