ADHD Drug Treatment Linked to Reduced Risk of Harmful Behaviors

Researchers in Sweden found that early treatment for attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) was associated with a lower risk of suicidal behavior, substance misuse, transport accidents, and crime. The study, which analyzed data from 148,581 adults and children with ADHD, showed that those who started drug treatment within three months of diagnosis had reduced rates of four outcomes over two years. The benefits were most pronounced in adults, women, and those with a prior history of the events.
