Adidas Confirms Customer Data Stolen by Hackers

German sportswear brand Adidas has confirmed that hackers stole data from a third-party customer service provider. The affected data mainly consists of contact information relating to consumers who had contacted the company’s customer service help desk in the past. According to Adidas, customers’ most sensitive information, including passwords and credit card details, was not compromised.

The breach is believed to have occurred through an “unauthorized” person accessing the third-party provider. Adidas claims that it took steps to contain the incident and launched a comprehensive investigation, collaborating with leading information security experts.

Customers who contacted Adidas’ customer service in the past may be affected by the data theft. To provide some indication of what information was stolen, customers must enter their first and last names, email addresses, and optional order number when starting online customer support.

Adidas is alerting impacted customers as well as relevant authorities and has expressed regret for any inconvenience caused. Experts warn that customers should be vigilant for potential phishing or social engineering attacks, even though payment data was not compromised.

While the breach appears to be less extensive than a recent Coinbase incident, it still poses risks for customers. The company’s decision not to provide detailed information on affected data points and timeline has raised concerns among some observers.
