Adrien Brody’s Epic 5-Minute Oscar Speech Sets Record

Adrien Brody holds the Guinness World Records for the longest acceptance speech in Oscars history. At the Dolby Theatre, he accepted his award for portraying Hungarian-Jewish architect László Tóth in The Brutalist, beating Garson’s record of five minutes and 30 seconds.

Before taking the stage, Brody was seen spitting out his chewing gum and throwing it to partner Georgina Chapman. When the music started to cut him off, he said: “Turn the music off! I’ve done this before. Thank you.” He went on to cover topics such as antisemitism, racism, and othering, expressing his desire for a more inclusive world.

Brody also talked about the fragility of acting and the importance of gratitude. As he concluded his speech, he said: “Let’s fight for what’s right, keep smiling, keep loving one another, let’s rebuild together.” The long speech was necessary due to the complexity of the film, according to Brody.

The 2025 Oscars saw other notable wins, including Mikey Madison as best actress and Sean Baker winning a record-breaking four awards. Kieran Culkin took home the Oscar for best supporting actor, while Zoe Saldaña became the first American of Dominican origin to accept an Academy Award.
