“Adults” Comedy Series Brings Gen Z Vibes to Big Screen

A new comedy series, “Adults”, has arrived on FX and Hulu, bringing a fresh take on the classic hangout sitcom genre. Created by Tonight Show writers Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw, the show follows a group of friends living together in Queens as they navigate post-college life.

The series centers around Samir (Malik Elassal), whose parents are off on a world tour, and his childhood friend Billie (Lucy Freyer). Issa (Amita Rao) and Anton (Owen Thiele), who went to college with Samir, join the group as well. Paul Baker (Jack Innanen), Issa’s easygoing boyfriend, rounds out the quintet.

The show tackles various issues, from social satire to cringe-worthy moments, but its tone is more focused on silliness and friendly vibes. The writers do an excellent job of showcasing the chemistry among the leads, making it work despite some hit-or-miss episodes.

One notable episode highlights the group’s approach to solving problems, often with hilarious results. The series also explores themes of identity and intimacy among the characters. Despite its ambitions, “Adults” avoids trying to declare itself a representative voice for Gen Z, instead focusing on being funny together.

The show’s cast delivers impressive performances, and its blend of farce, social commentary, and character comedy makes it an entertaining watch. With its debut on May 28, followed by weekly releases on FX, “Adults” is sure to delight audiences with its unique take on the classic hangout sitcom genre.
