AEW Debuts Down Under with Big Matches Taped in Brisbane

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) made its Australian debut today, February 15, at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre. The event, known as Grand Slam Australia, taped a series of matches that will air on TNT and stream on Max after NBA All-Star Weekend coverage ends.

The sold-out crowd was electric, with Tony Khan winning them over with his promotional comments. The main event saw Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega defeat Konosuke Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher via pinfall in a highly anticipated match. Ospreay’s performance was especially well-received by the audience.

Other notable matches included Mercedes MonĂ© defending her TBS title against Harley Cameron, Death Riders (Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli) defeating Jay White and Adam Copeland in a brutal Brisbane Street Fight, and Kazuchika Okada retaining his Continental title against Buddy Matthews. Timeless Toni Storm also made history by winning the AEW Women’s World title for a record fourth time.

The event was followed by AEW ROH Global Wars taping, which will air on Max at a later date. The matches taped included Bandido and The Outrunners defeating Chris Jericho and The Learning Tree in a six-man tag team match, Lee Moriarty retaining the Ring of Honor Pure championship against Robbie Eagles, and Sons of Texas (Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara) defending their ROH Tag titles.

With AEW set to return to Australia next year, fans are eagerly anticipating more opportunities to witness the talent of this growing promotion.
