The Santa Monica Architectural Review Board (ARB) has given the green light to a proposed affordable housing project at 1217 14th St., which will provide 82 senior and permanent supportive housing units. The six-story building, developed by Hollywood Community Housing Corporation (HCHC), will feature subterranean parking for 42 vehicles. In October, HCHC’s Executive Director said the project prioritizes serving seniors aged 55 and above.
Public comments have been mixed, with some residents expressing concerns about safety and parking issues. However, others see the housing crisis as an opportunity to address the need for affordable housing in Mid-City. The ARB approval comes after a sister project at 1217 Euclid St. was also approved earlier this month. With one condition – more landscape on upper floors – the board has moved forward with the development, which is expected to bring much-needed housing options to the area.
