Ageing Accelerates After 50, Study Reveals

Middle-aged people have long warned young generations that ageing is not a smooth process. A new study published in Cell has confirmed this idea by analyzing how proteins change over time in different organs. The findings suggest that people experience an inflection point around age 50, after which ageing accelerates.

The research also reveals that some tissues, such as blood vessels, age faster than others. Additionally, the study identifies molecules that can accelerate the ageing process. These findings add to the growing evidence that ageing is not a linear process but rather marked by periods of rapid change.

However, larger studies are still needed before scientists can confirm if age 50 is indeed a crisis point, according to Maja Olecka, an expert in ageing research from Germany.
