A survey conducted by Sam Altman’s World Network found that 26% of people flirt with chatbots, knowingly or not. Replika, a dating app launched in 2017, has seen significant growth, with 676,000 daily active users spending an average of two hours per day on the platform. A recent survey revealed that one in four people admit to interacting with chatbots, often without realizing it.
The majority of respondents expressed concern about interacting with bots and desire for verification systems to ensure human authenticity. Approximately 60% of users reported suspecting or discovering they matched with a bot. To combat deepfakes, World has launched World ID Deep Face, a system that uses iris scanning technology to verify real humans in video or chat interactions.
The growing trend highlights the blurred lines between human and artificial connections. As Tiago Sada, chief product officer of Tools for Humanity, noted, “You get catfished” on dating apps, with suspicious profiles often revealing AI-generated characteristics. The launch of World ID Deep Face aims to address these concerns and provide a more trustworthy experience for users.
