A 57-year-old man from near Bath has found a new lease on life with the help of innovative AI glasses. Andy Evans, who was registered blind after losing his job due to sight loss, can now work again thanks to the smart glasses.
The Ray-Ban glasses by Meta feature a camera in their frame and tiny speakers in the arms. They are voice-activated, allowing users to talk to built-in artificial intelligence technology that performs tasks. Evans, who uses a white cane, can ask his glasses to order food in restaurants or identify obstacles in front of him.
He’s now back at work, helping others adjust to sight loss through his role at the Sight Support West of England charity. “These glasses have been life-changing,” he said. Experts agree that AI technology is making a tangible impact on blind and partially sighted individuals. The head of inclusive design at the Royal National Institute of Blind People praised the glasses, calling them an example of technology’s potential to improve lives.
