A new study found that artificial intelligence systems used to aid doctors in detecting cancer led to a significant decline in their ability to spot tumors after just months of use. The AI tool initially improved the detection of pre-cancerous growths in the colon, but when the system was turned off, doctors’ skills regressed by around 20%. This finding highlights the risks and limitations of relying heavily on technology in medical decision-making.
