Google has integrated its Gemini AI capabilities into the Google Home app and its Nest smart home devices, bringing three new features that aim to enhance home security and management. These features are currently available only for English language users, primarily focused on Nest Aware Plus subscribers during the initial rollout.
The first feature uses Gemini’s power to provide detailed descriptions along with video clips when a Nest cam or doorbell is activated. This allows users to view a quick description of what’s happening without having to watch the footage directly.
A new search function has also been introduced, allowing users to ask basic questions to get answers from their camera history. For example, users can ask “Was the trash taken to the street yesterday?” or “When did the dog go for a walk?”
The third feature, ‘Help me create’, is designed to make setting up home automations easier. Users can request what they want to happen in natural language, and Gemini will set it up in the Google Home app.
These features are available now for Nest Aware Plus users, with more users expected to be rolled out in the coming months. To test these new features, users can update their Google Home system and play around with the new capabilities.
