An artificial intelligence startup called Perplexity has offered to buy Google’s Chrome browser for $34.5 billion, with venture investors backing the deal. The company’s proposal comes after US regulators proposed Google divest Chrome as part of an antitrust suit it lost last year. Perplexity is known for its AI-powered search engine and recently launched its own browser called Comet. This bid marks a significant move by the startup, which has also previously considered acquiring TikTok. If successful, the deal would value Chrome at nearly twice its current valuation.
