Aid Workers Killed in Gaza Were Shot Multiple Times, Officials Say

Aid workers killed in Gaza were shot multiple times, officials say. Nearly all of the 15 bodies recovered from a mass grave had gunshot wounds, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society, which lost eight members in the attack, stated that many of the victims showed multiple gunshots and were thrown into a shallow grave along with their crushed ambulances. A forensic expert found bullet wounds on four bodies, including some shot at close range, while another body was decomposed beyond recognition.

International condemnation has grown over the deaths of humanitarian workers who went missing on March 23 in Rafah, Gaza. The United Nations accused Israel of killing them after ambulances and a U.N. vehicle came under attack from Israeli forces.

An Israeli military spokesman denied randomly attacking ambulances but said several vehicles “advanced suspiciously” without headlights or emergency signals toward troops, prompting shots to be fired.

The deaths have drawn widespread criticism, with the United Nations calling for an independent investigation into the attack. The organization described it as a grave violation of laws protecting humanitarian workers in conflict zones.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported that one paramedic was found tied to his body, and another member is still missing. An Israeli military spokesperson said one detainee who rode in the first ambulance was later released after being detained by the Israeli military.
