Aidan Hutchinson Clears for Football Activities After Leg Injury Rehab

Detroit Lions star edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson has been fully cleared to return to football activities after a lengthy rehab process following a season-ending leg injury in 2023. Hutchinson expressed his excitement about rejoining the team, saying he’s “back to being myself again” and looking forward to the upcoming season.

Hutchinson suffered a fractured tibia and fibula injury in Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys but managed to push through psychological, physical, and spiritual hurdles during his time away. He credits faith for helping him cope with the challenges and is now ready to contribute to the team’s success.

Despite missing the final 12 games of last season, Hutchinson still accumulated 7.5 sacks, which was a Lions franchise record at the time. He also led the NFL in sacks, pressures, and pass rush win rate even after being carted off the field against the Cowboys.

The Lions’ defense will need to adjust to new coordinator Kelvin Sheppard, who took over after Aaron Glenn became head coach of the New York Jets. However, Hutchinson is optimistic about his team’s chances, saying he won’t be satisfied until he reaches “greater heights.”

Hutchinson’s return has sparked enthusiasm among teammates, with All-Pro tackle Penei Sewell praising his work ethic and energy. Veteran defensive tackle DJ Reader noted that seeing Hutchinson move around during the offseason program was a positive sign for the team’s path to reaching the 2025 season.
