An Air Canada Express flight, AC2259, experienced a suspected landing gear issue after arriving at Halifax Stanfield International Airport in Nova Scotia on Saturday night. The incident occurred when the plane skidded down the runway for a short distance and passengers reported seeing flames on the aircraft’s left side.
According to passenger Nikki Valentine, who spoke with CNN, “The plane shook quite a bit and we started seeing fire on the left side of the plane and smoke started coming in the windows.” No one was injured during the incident, but several flights were diverted or canceled due to airfield closures.
The Halifax airport closed for approximately 90 minutes before clearing one runway for flight operations. Air Canada has expressed appreciation for the incident’s resolution, stating that they remain available to assist affected customers.
An investigation by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada is underway, with a team expected to arrive later Sunday. The aircraft remains on the runway pending further examination.
