Air Canada Flights Cancelled Amid Potential Strike

Canada’s largest airline, Air Canada, will start cancelling flights on Thursday as its flight attendants’ union threatens to go on strike over contract talks. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) issued a 72-hour strike notice after negotiations broke down, citing a dispute over wages and unpaid work.

Air Canada has offered a 38% increase in total compensation over four years but claims this is below market value. CUPE says the offer leaves flight attendants unpaid for some hours and argues it was not made in good faith. The airline will start suspending flights gradually before a complete cessation on Saturday, affecting 130,000 daily customers.

Customers whose flights are cancelled will receive a full refund, but alternative travel options may take time or not be immediately available. Other airports have begun contingency plans to mitigate the disruption.
