A couple who were celebrating their engagement in India have been named among the victims of the recent Air India plane crash. Hardik Avaiya and Vibhooti Patel, both from Leicester, were on a flight to Gatwick when it crashed in Ahmedabad, killing over 240 people.
Friends and family members paid tribute to the couple, describing them as close-knit and caring. Mr Avaiya was a volunteer at a local temple, where he helped with events twice a week. He was known for his selfless service and dedication to others.
Ms Patel, a physiotherapist, had expressed her shock and devastation upon learning of the crash. Friends described their feelings as “helplessness” and “emptiness”. The Leicester community came together to hold a hymn festival at the Shree Hanuman Temple to pray for all victims and cope with the tragedy.
The plane, carrying 242 people from various nationalities, crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad airport. Authorities have confirmed that Mr Avaiya and Ms Patel were among the victims.
