Air India Crash Investigation Urges Public Caution

India’s Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is urging the public and media to refrain from speculating on the causes of last month’s Air India crash that killed 260 people. A preliminary report released on Saturday identified fuel control switches in the cockpit as a key factor in the accident.

However, investigators stress that it is too early to reach any conclusions, and a final report will contain the “root causes and recommendations” of the crash. The investigation is ongoing, and it is crucial not to spread premature narratives that might compromise the integrity of the process.

The AAIB chief, GVG Yugandhar, warned against speculating on the findings of the preliminary report. He also clarified that Air India has cleared its Boeing 787 fleet of any issues related to its fuel switches, following an internal investigation that found no problems with the locking mechanism.

A separate inquiry by Singapore Airlines and Scoot, two other airlines operating Boeing 787s, found all fuel switches to be functioning properly. The incident highlights the need for caution and responsible reporting when investigating complex aviation incidents.
