Air India Flight Crash: Preliminary Report Reveals Fuel Supply Cut

An Air India flight on June 12 crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad Airport, killing at least 260 people. The plane was bound for London Gatwick Airport with 230 passengers and 12 crew members on board.

According to a preliminary report released by India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, the crash occurred when the fuel supply was cut off about 35 seconds into the flight. The report states that both engines attempted to relight but could not stop their deceleration.

The investigation found that the pilots had reported a defect in one of the sensors on the plane earlier, which seemed related to a stabilizer issue. However, it’s unlikely that the switches moved without human intervention, and experts say it’s possible that the switches were accidentally or intentionally moved by someone.

A cockpit voice recording captures a confused interaction between the pilots, with one asking why the other had cut off fuel. The report notes that this incident highlights the need for enhanced safety procedures to prevent such accidents in the future.

The crash is India’s worst aviation disaster in decades, and it may take investigators months to reach conclusive answers.
