A direct threat was made by a passenger on Alaska Flight 2123 scheduled to depart for Walla Walla. At 12:15 p.m. local time, the flight crew taxied the aircraft to Runway 16R/34L, and Port of Seattle Police responded to investigate. A suspect was taken into custody, and all passengers were deplaned and cleared through K9 inspection.
The investigation found that the suspect made a flippant remark about a bomb to the flight crew. Two runways (16R/34L and 16C/34C) were closed during the investigation while one runway (16L/34R) remained open. The Center runway was reopened at 1:45 p.m.
After clearing by 3:00 p.m., the aircraft was towed back to the terminal, and Runway 16R/34L was re-opened by 3:15 p.m. The FBI and Port of Seattle Police are reviewing the incident to determine whether charges are appropriate.
Passengers are advised to contact their airlines for updates on their specific flight status. Travelers should monitor their airline’s updates for information on resumption of normal operations.
