A 64-year-old man was critically injured after an aircraft tug vehicle collided with a United Airlines plane at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport on Saturday evening. The incident occurred around 6:58 p.m. in the taxiway, when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it flipped over.
The aircraft involved was American Airlines Flight 6181, operated by Air Wisconsin from Kalamazoo, Michigan. No injuries were reported among passengers, but airport officials confirmed that airport operations were not significantly disrupted.
“We are reviewing this incident to ensure the safety of our customers and team members,” said a spokesperson for American Airlines. United Airlines also released a statement expressing concern for the injured driver’s well-being and promising support.
The driver was taken to Lutheran General Hospital in critical condition with head and lower body injuries but is reportedly stable, according to Chicago police.
