Al Jazeera Journalist Hossam Shabat Killed in Israeli Attack

A Palestinian journalist was killed by an Israeli attack in northern Gaza, joining another media worker who died earlier in the day. Hossam Shabat, 23, worked for Al Jazeera Mubasher and had previously been wounded in an Israeli attack but insisted on continuing to report from Gaza.

According to witnesses, Shabat’s vehicle was targeted by the Israeli military without prior warning. In his final words, he called on people not to let the world ignore the situation in Gaza, urging them to continue speaking out about the conflict and advocating for Palestine’s freedom.

The killing brings the total number of media workers killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 2023 to 208. The Committee to Protect Journalists has condemned the killing and called for an independent investigation into whether Shabat was deliberately targeted.

Heavy bombardment by Israel continued across Gaza, with at least 65 people killed in Israeli attacks since dawn on Monday, according to medical sources. Over 700 have been killed, including hundreds of children, since large-scale Israeli attacks resumed on March 18.
