An Israeli airstrike killed Anas Al-Sharif, the leader of a Hamas cell, in Gaza City on Sunday. The IDF claimed that Al-Sharif posed as a journalist for Al Jazeera and led rocket attacks against Israeli civilians and troops.
The military released documents found in Gaza, including personnel rosters, lists of terrorist training courses, phone directories, and salary documents, which confirmed Al-Sharif’s affiliation with Hamas. Al Jazeera had previously denied any links to him.
“Press badge isn’t a shield for terrorism,” said the IDF. The UN Human Rights Office condemned the killings and called for immediate access to Gaza for all journalists.
