Aldi, the US grocery store chain known for its low prices, has sold its Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket banners to private investors. The deal involves roughly 170 stores in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida.
Aldi is retaining 220 of the Winn-Dixie stores it previously acquired, with plans to convert them into Aldi locations. In November, several Winn-Dixie locations across Alabama began closing as part of this process.
The private investors, led by the CEO of Winn-Dixie’s parent company and C&S Wholesale Grocers, will acquire the remaining Winn-Dixie stores along with the liquor store business. This deal marks a significant shift in Aldi’s strategy, allowing it to focus on its core format.
Aldi plans to continue expanding its operations through 2027, converting American grocery stores to its format as part of this goal. The company aims to improve customer experience and store offerings by listening to customers’ voices and investing in its people and communities.
Anthony Hucker, the CEO of Southeastern Grocers and C&S Wholesale Grocers, expressed his commitment to “thoughtful, purpose-driven growth” and vowed to continue elevating the customer experience for Aldi’s customers.
