Alec Baldwin, 66, has spoken out about his struggles with the aftermath of the Rust shooting that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in 2021. The actor and his wife Hilaria Baldwin have been open about the impact of the incident on their mental health.
In a recent episode of their reality show The Baldwins, Alec shared his feelings of surrealism and pain, stating that he often feels more in pain than himself during this time. He also spoke about the effects of PTSD and OCD since the shooting, which led to him being charged with involuntary manslaughter but ultimately having the case dismissed.
Hilaria credited their seven children for keeping them going, saying they see how hard she and Alec are trying to create happiness despite masking their struggles. Alec echoed this sentiment, stating that his family is what’s kept him going, and he wouldn’t have made it without them.
However, even with the support of their children, the family has not escaped the stress entirely. Hilaria revealed that the older kids “have awareness” of the situation and the younger ones are still adjusting to life without Halyna Hutchins. The loss of a loved one will forever be a part of their family story.
The incident occurred on October 27, 2021, when Alec was holding a prop gun on set, which went off and killed Hutchins. Despite maintaining he did not fire the gun, Alec has been open about his struggles with grief and mental health since then.
