Actor Alec Baldwin has spoken candidly about the impact of the 2021 “Rust” shooting on his mental health. In an upcoming episode of TLC’s reality show “The Baldwins,” he talks to his wife Hilaria about the emotional toll of the incident that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Baldwin describes feeling “surreal” and “in pain” after the shooting, saying he often feels worse than himself when thinking about how it affected his loved ones. He admits to experiencing depression and anxiety, which led to him struggling with getting out of bed at times.
Hilaria adds that Alec’s mental health has declined significantly since he was charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the incident. She reveals that Alec has been diagnosed with PTSD and shares a statement where he questions why he was spared from death if an accident had to happen on set.
The couple also discusses how Alec’s mental state changes daily, with him often waking up feeling anxious and unsure about his future. Baldwin even admits to telling a friend that he is “happier when I’m asleep than when I’m awake.”
