Alec Baldwin and his wife Hilaria spoke candidly about the family’s struggles after the fatal “Rust” shooting in 2021, which left cinematographer Halyna Hutchins dead and director Joel Souza injured. In their new reality series, “The Baldwins,” the couple shares their efforts to shield their children from the aftermath of the tragedy and the emotional toll it took on them.
Baldwin admitted that during the most difficult moments before his trial, he struggled with depression and PTSD. His wife confirmed that everyone close to him has seen a decline in his mental health since the incident. In her darkest moments, Baldwin would wonder if an accident had occurred on a particular day why he was still alive.
The actor was charged with involuntary manslaughter but pleaded not guilty, maintaining he did not pull the trigger of a discharged prop gun. His case was dismissed after trial began in July 2024, and he faced up to 18 months in prison.
In a heart-wrenching moment, Hilaria expressed sadness for all involved, especially Hutchins’ family. The first episode of “The Baldwins” is set just before the start of Baldwin’s trial, as the family celebrates one of their seven children’s birthdays. New episodes will air Sundays at 10pm ET/PT on TLC.
