The Boston Red Sox officially signed third baseman Alex Bregman to a three-year, $120 million contract extension through the 2027 season. The deal includes deferrals and opt-outs. To make room for Bregman on the 40-man roster, left-handed pitcher Patrick Sandoval was placed on the 60-day injured list. Bregman will wear No. 2, previously worn by Dominic Smith last season. A news conference is scheduled for Sunday at Fenway South to discuss the signing.
