Alex Palou Secures Dominant Pole at Mid Ohio

Alex Palou continued his dominant season in IndyCar with a surprise top time at the Mid Ohio Sports Car Course. The Spaniard, driving for Chip Ganassi Racing, laid down a blistering 1:05.0215s to claim the pole position for Sunday’s Honda Indy 200.

Palou’s impressive qualifying result has been a key differentiator in his campaign this year. He credited his team’s great cars and their ability to find speed at every track as the main reasons behind his success.

In a surprising turn of events, Arrow McLaren star Christian Lundgaard fell just shy of Palou, securing second place despite leading his group through the Fast 12. Young IndyCar sophomore Kyffin Simpson made an unexpected appearance in the Fast Six, but ultimately fell short of his teammate’s pole time by 0.734s.

The qualifying session was marked by several other impressive performances from drivers such as Nolan Siegel, Colton Herta, and Louis Foster. However, for Team Penske, it was a disastrous day, with all three of their drivers failing to advance to the top six qualifiers.

Palou’s dominant pole position sets him up well to continue his championship campaign. The Honda Indy 200 will take place on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET on FOX, with fans eager to see if Palou can extend his winning streak.
