Algerian Football Fans Die After Stadium Fall

A tragic incident occurred at a football stadium in Algeria’s capital city, Algiers, leaving three fans dead and dozens injured. The incident happened just after the final whistle of MC Alger’s league title-winning match against NC Magra. A security barrier collapse caused fans to surge forward, resulting in those on the upper stand falling onto the lower tier.

Over 70 people were treated at hospitals, with most since being released. Players and staff from MC Alger visited the hospitals to donate blood to the injured. The stadium was packed for the match, which saw the team retain its league title they won last year.

The Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, offered his condolences and wished a speedy recovery for the injured. Following the incident, the presentation of the league trophy was postponed due to the tragic events.
