Alicia Silverstone is reuniting with her iconic character Cher Horowitz in a new Clueless TV series. The project, developed at Peacock, marks the second high-profile revival of a classic Paramount/CBS IP after Little House On the Prairie. Written and executive produced by Gossip Girl’s Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, along with Jordan Weiss and Amy Heckerling, Silverstone will reprise her role as Cher. The series is a continuation of the 1995 movie and its own short-lived TV spin-off.
The new series comes after CBS Studios developed a previous Clueless reboot centered around Stacey Dash’s Dionne character, which ultimately didn’t move forward. With this latest attempt, the studio is bringing together a fresh creative team, including Silverstone as Cher. The project was pitched to Peacock, which has maintained its interest in reviving the classic IP.
The Clueless franchise, inspired by Jane Austen’s novel Emma, follows the adventures of Cher Horowitz, a wealthy and popular California girl navigating high school life at Bronson Alcott High. This new series marks another notable revival of a beloved IP, following Little House On the Prairie’s move to Netflix.
Jordan Weiss, who created Dollface, is co-writing and executive producing the show alongside Schwartz and Savage. Weiss has also worked on other notable projects, including Sweethearts and City On Fire. Amy Heckerling, writer-director of the original 1995 film, will also be involved as an executive producer.
Silverstone’s return to her iconic role comes after a successful Super Bowl ad reprisal two years ago. She is set to star in several upcoming projects, including Irish Blood and Merry Little Ex-Mas.
