Alien Universe Takes Flight with New TV Series Earth

For the first time, the Alien franchise is bringing its iconic universe to television, with a new series set on Earth. Fargo creator Noah Hawley’s Alien: Earth premieres August 12 at 8 p.m. ET on FX and will be available to stream on Hulu in the US and Disney+ internationally.

The show takes place in 2120, two years before the events of the original movie, and is set in a world where five rival corporations govern the Earth. These companies have developed advanced technologies that create new forms of life, including cyborgs, synths (humanoid robots), and hybrids (synthetic beings with human consciousness).

The story follows Boy Kavalier, a trillionaire who has created a method to transfer the consciousness of terminally ill children into synthetic bodies, making them theoretically immortal. However, when he sends his team to investigate a crashed Weyland-Yutani spaceship, they discover a full-grown Xenomorph and other mysterious life forms that threaten their experiment’s stability.

Alien: Earth does not directly tie into Prometheus or Alien: Covenant, which are set just 16 years before the events of this series. Showrunner Hawley opted to retain the retro-futuristic technology from the first two Alien movies, rejecting advanced holographic technology instead.
