All-Female Crew Completes Record-Breaking Space Trip with Katy Perry

Blue Origin’s all-female crew, led by pop star Katy Perry, has completed a 11-minute space trip that marked the first all-female spaceflight since 1963. The crew, which included journalist Lauren Sanchez and former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, reached an altitude of over 60 miles above Earth.

Perry, who flew with her 4-year-old daughter Daisy’s name on a daisy carried by her in memory, described the experience as “supernatural.” Journalist Gayle King, who was also part of the crew, said she felt connected to love and praised the mission for inspiring young women and girls.

The six-person crew emerged from their capsule after landing back on Earth, with Perry kissing the ground. King addressed criticism that the trip was a “ride” instead of a journey, saying it didn’t describe the experience. The crew’s achievement comes as NASA’s early astronaut program was exclusively male for nearly two decades after the Soviet mission.

The Blue Origin mission is historic, marking the first all-female spaceflight in over 50 years. Perry had been dreaming of going to space for 15 years and said her dream became a reality on Monday morning.
