Allies Pledge Billions in Military Support for Ukraine

Leaders from over 40 countries, including the US and Germany, will meet in Brussels on April 11 to discuss military aid for Ukraine. The meeting, known as the Ramstein-format, comes at a critical time as Ukraine faces Russian aggression.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will join the meeting via video link. The previous summit in February saw almost $2 billion in aid pledged by allies. Today, US Defense Secretary John Healey promised “billions more” in support.

The UK and Norway have already committed an additional $585 million to military aid, while Germany has pledged new air defenses and armored vehicles. Ukraine’s President Zelensky urged his partners to prioritize air defense and help speed up agreement implementation.

Launched in 2022 by former US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, the Ukraine Defense Contact Group has delivered over $126 billion in military support from around 50 countries. However, the new US administration has yet to approve a new aid package for Kyiv, instead seeking a peace agreement with Russia.
