For decades, statin medications have been the go-to solution for preventing and treating heart disease in the US. However, these lipid-reducing medicines are not effective for everyone and can only lower “bad” cholesterol by a limited amount. As a result, new alternatives to statins are being explored to better manage cholesterol levels for individuals who don’t respond well or need additional support.
