Amazon Accused of Interfering with Union Vote Counting Process

A union in North Carolina accused Amazon of interfering with the vote counting process during an election at a warehouse near Raleigh on Saturday. The union, CAUSE, claimed that three workers who were going to report results were asked to leave by Amazon representatives, preventing it from displaying a livestream of votes on its website.

CAUSE alleged that Amazon is “flagrantly violating labor law” and that the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) had no issue with live-streaming the tally. An Amazon spokesperson denied this claim, stating that the company and CAUSE had the same number of representatives in the room participating in the process.

This incident comes after the NLRB has accused Amazon of improper interference in prior elections, including intimidation of workers. The agency has ordered a third vote as a result of these claims. A successful union drive at a warehouse in Staten Island last year led to Amazon recognizing the group and negotiating with organizers.

The company has also been criticized for coercing voters at a Whole Foods location in Philadelphia last month to win an election. The controversy surrounding labor practices continues to unfold, highlighting tensions between workers seeking collective bargaining rights and the tech giant’s opposition to unionization efforts.
